July 19-25, 2010
This week's Scripture:
"In that day Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria-a blessing in the
midst of the land, whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, "Blessed is Egypt
My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance."
(Isaiah
19:24-25 NKJV
)
I love stories. And I love how God uses unlikely people to both tell the story
of God and become that story themselves.
One of our elders--Walt Soto--recently shared a story of reaching out to someone
who needed a touch from the Lord. While heading in the direction of his own family
after a worship gathering, Walt felt God nudge him in the direction of someone he
didn't know. That stranger--really a guest in our midst--turned out to be a technician
who had attended a KPC worship gathering in order to give us counsel on the use
of some equipment.
It was in retrospect that our elder realized the God-moment he'd almost missed.
It turned out that the technician really had some spiritual hunger, and KPC worship
left him wondering about who God was. Walt was so glad he had turned around and
sought out the man. As this elder shared with a number of us later, we all realized
how easily we push past the people God has already placed in our lives.
This week the big question may be, "Who's already there?" or, "Who do you need to
turn your attention towards?" Could it be there are people in your life who are
open to a relationship with a follower of Christ--a relationship that, over time,
will become the beginning of their own relationship with God?
Who might those people be? Come on, you're not that busy. ARE YOU?

A Summer Serve Team Report
It's
been amazing to hear how God used "seed" faith to minister to others. Some people
needed hope, so they turned around and gave it. Some needed encouragement, so they
gave encouragement. All across the city, God used KPC to share His love. Read below
for another "God-story," and be encouraged!
I knew going into the jail during Summer Serve would be a blessing to both the women
serving and the lady inmates. I have a sincere relationship with the ladies, such
that I am aware of what makes them comfortable and what makes them uncomfortable.
For weeks, I was building up Summer Serve (each time I went to minister to my ladies)
and knew that we would NOT be doing worship songs, because we don't like to perform!
This had nothing to do with the love of Christ, but rather with the ladies being
out of their comfort zones.
Well, the Lord apparently thought differently! As we arrived, I was told that the
ladies had a little something planned! EXCITEMENT, with slight apprehension, pulsed
through me. As I said, we do NOT perform. Well, we were praying and could hear
the rumble of the men's worship in the cell block directly above us. (Cue the worship.)
My ladies (and I claim them as mine through Christ), let out sounds of worship.
The rumble and roar of the voices was chilling. (Cue the Holy Spirit! ) The cell
block was so lit up with the glory of God, I felt as though I was in the presence
of a choir of angels! I learned that when we say we won't or can't or don't feel
comfortable...the Lord chuckles, pulls us up by our boot straps, and lets us soar
like eagles in His glory!
(Samantha Ewing)
Remember, Summer Serve is just the beginning! The plan is to keep on serving.
To get involved, check out the Serve Hampton Roads Calendar at kpc.org/serving and contact Kara Hanger. Like Samantha,
you never know what surprises the Lord has in store!

FAQs ABOUT KPC's NEW PICTORIAL DIRECTORY |
|
Why Should I Participate?
For the first time in 20 years, KPC is planning a Pictorial Directory and WE WANT
YOU IN IT! Sign up now for your 20-minute sitting with a professional Olan Mills
photographer. Got questions? Here are the FAQ's:
How will a Pictorial Directory benefit the church?
KPC Pastors and Elders want to see you connected and growing together in Christ.
The Pictorial Directory is a valuable tool to build rewarding relationships that
last. Have you ever recognized someone in church for years and been at a loss for
words? (Even Pastor Nate needs help connecting names to faces!) A Pictorial Directory
takes away the guesswork.
Why should I have my picture taken?
Having your picture taken is the only way to get a directory. For participating,
you'll also receive a free 8 x 10 portrait and an opportunity to purchase prints.
And, the more pictures taken, the more directories KPC will receive for newcomers
in the future!
Can I buy a directory?
We're sorry, but no--our contract with Olan Mills prohibits the sale of directories. Only those who take advantage of this opportunity will receive a directory.
How do I sign up?
Sign up in the KPC lobby at the Pictorial Directory table before July 25 online at olanmills.com (To sign up online, you'll need KPC's phone number:
757-495-1913.)
Online slots differ from those available at KPC, so sign up today!
Where will the pictures be taken?
Right at KPC in Rooms A1&2 across from the Den. Photo sessions begin on Monday,
August 2 and continue through September. Saturday sittings are also available.
How long are the sessions?
It's best to arrive 10 minutes before your appointment. Most appointments take
about 45 minutes total.
How can I include my military spouse or family member?
Active duty military personnel serving away from home can send his/her picture to
KPC to the attention of Marcia Curtis.
What about adult children?
Adult children can have their pictures taken separately from that of their families
and thus receive their own directories.
When will directories be available?
We are doing everything possible to have directories available in time for Christmas.
(No promises!)
Besides having my picture taken, how can I help?
Volunteer hosts are needed during photo sessions. If you can help for one or more
4-hour shifts, please see the volunteer signup list in the lobby at KPC.
Who can I talk to if I have more questions?
For more information or to volunteer, contact Marcia Curtis at 495-2008.
