The Essentials Of Our Faith

KPC’S BELIEFS

All Scripture is self-attesting and, being Truth, requires our unreserved submission in all areas of life. The infallible Word of God, the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is a complete and unified witness to God's redemptive acts culminating in the incarnation of the Living Word, the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible, uniquely and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, is the supreme and final authority on all matters on which it speaks. On this sure foundation we affirm these additional Essentials of our faith:

We believe in one God, the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. To Him be all honor, glory and praise forever!

Jesus Christ, the living Word, become flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. He who is true God became true man united in one Person forever. He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. On the third day He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He now is our High Priest and Mediator.

The Holy Spirit has come to glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to our hearts. He convicts us of sin and draws us to the Savior. Indwelling our hearts, He gives new life to us, empowers and imparts gifts to us for service. He instructs and guides us into all truth, and seals us for the day of redemption.

Being estranged from God and condemned by our sinfulness, our salvation is wholly dependent upon the work of God's free grace. God credits His righteousness to those who put their faith in Christ alone for their salvation, thereby justifies them in His sight. Only such as are born of the Holy Spirit and receive Jesus Christ become children of God and heirs of eternal life.

The true Church is composed of all persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit are united together in the body of Christ. The Church finds her visible, yet imperfect, expression in local congregations where the Word of God is preached in its purity and the sacraments are administered in their integrity; where scriptural discipline is practiced, and where loving fellowship is maintained. For her perfecting, she awaits the return of her Lord.

Jesus Christ will come again to the earth-personally, visibly, and bodily-to judge the living and the dead, and to consummate history and the eternal plan of God. "Even so, come, Lord Jesus." (Rev. 22:20)

The Lord Jesus Christ commands all believers to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world and to make disciples of all nations. Obedience to the Great Commission requires total commitment to "Him who loved us and gave Himself for us." He calls us to a life of self-denying love and service. "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." (Eph. 2:10)

KPC’S VALUES

What’s Important to Us

Values form the culture or atmosphere that others can see and sense. KPC has key values that guide our ministry and, while some may be more fully developed than others, they are all important and define the way we minister as a church. These values are not accidental or random; they are consciously cultivated because we believe they honor God and will help us fulfill the church’s vision.

Missional
Love for those distant from God motivates us to focus our attention first of all on those outside the church.

Relevance
Like Jesus, we want to be refreshingly relevant to the world. He actively spent time with the common people. He understood them, loved them, and made spiritual truth a common reality for them. We don't want to be a place where believers hide from the world, but a place where culture encounters Christ. As a result, we do our best to use the language of our culture, address issues that really matter to those in our community, and offer hope while speaking the truth in love.

Authenticity
We value honesty, brokenness, and confession before God, and we believe we should be open with others about our struggles, doubts, thoughts, and hopes. We don’t pretend to be something we aren’t. And we don’t believe in wearing religious masks. Instead, we try to remain transparent and honest knowing that peace, spiritual growth, and a true sense of community will only come when we are authentic before God, others, and ourselves.

Warmth
KPC is more than a church; it is an extended family. We want everyone who passes through our doors to feel welcomed, accepted, and loved—no matter how they’re dressed or where they are in their walk with God.

Relationships
The New Testament is filled with teachings on how we are to live with “one another.” We laugh together and cry together; we celebrate together and grieve together. We choose to be actively involved in meaningful relationships so that we can encourage and be encouraged by them in our walk with God. Some of these relationships may happen spontaneously as we worship beside each other—but we believe that intentional relationships in small groups provide us with the best opportunity to connect with others in vital and powerful ways.

Permission Giving
When we’re approached with new ideas for ways to impact our community or shape our ministry, we don’t want “no” to be a word we often say. Though we may not drop everything to start a new ministry ourselves, we want to be able to say “yes” and actively support those who feel called to step out and do something new.

Integrity
KPC actively promotes a Biblical lifestyle demonstrated in godly character. While we understand that integrity can be costly, we long to see every believer live and work under the guiding presence of the Holy Spirit and in obedience to Holy Scripture. We know that Christians aren’t perfect and that even strong believers sin. God has forgiven us, and so we will always allow for forgiveness and change. We are committed to encouraging a lifestyle that honors God in every way.

Passionate
We are being drawn into a vibrant, honest, and intimate relationship with God, and so we value a passionate and authentic spirituality. This is found in our private experience with God, as well as in our public worship as a congregation. We affirm that our passion will not surrender to fanaticism or our joy into mere excitability. We pursue a passionate relationship with God and give Him the worship He rightly deserves.

Creativity
God is the Creator, the source of creativity, and creativity and innovation are the natural result of true spirituality. Though we respect the past, we realize we must do more than borrow from other believers or earlier times if we are to remain relevant. We foster an atmosphere that encourages exploration and innovation, expecting God to give us new music, new ministries, fresh ideas, original artwork, and innumerable other expressions of His creativity. Though the Holy Scripture is changeless, our ministries will always be innovative and fresh.

Biblical Worldview
KPC values life-changing teaching and application of the Bible. In the Scriptures, God has provided us with a roadmap for life that we can use to understand and apply His life-giving truth. Though our society is constantly changing, the Holy Scriptures remain unchanging. Believing this, we choose to view today’s issues through the lens of God’s Word instead of through the ever-changing window of the world.

Gift-based Ministry
We are convinced that God does extraordinary things through ordinary people. Rather than being a church built on the work of ministry professionals, we are built around our many volunteers serving in areas where they are gifted. We understand that the primary work of pastors and leaders is to equip and mobilize believers to fulfill their calling in Christ through service both inside and outside the church.

Informal
We are about having a relationship with God . . . a God who actively seeks a relationship with each of us individually. Remembering this, we tend to be informal in speech, style, and even dress. More than anything we want people to be comfortable and to leave the emphasis on sincerity of heart rather than manner of dress.

Intentional Spiritual Growth
While each follower of Christ is called to reach across to those who are distant from God, we are also called to become fully devoted followers of the Lord Jesus. In other words, spiritual growth (“discipleship” is the traditional word) is not optional! The path to growth is built on gathering in worship, becoming a part of community, serving others, and commitment to personal spiritual disciplines beginning with Bible reading and prayer. We built our church around these four principles of spiritual growth.
